Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

My son sent a brief to the dca last year in May. Last month he sent then an inquiry for them to answer him. He found so many flaws in his case and is asking dca to review this which would grant him a new trial or possibly grant him his freedom. He is indigent. He received 20 yrs for a crime that the judge said he would not give him that kind of time, but in fact gave him the time which should have been about three (3) years. How can he get an attorney appointed by the court or how can he get dca to rule on his case review. They say when called it is before the judges for a review, but has not been answered. Can you please advise. Thanks

If he is filing an appellate brief then he should be appointed an attorney. On the other hand, if this a second level of appeal or it is a 3.850 motion, then it could take a while. Sometimes it could take one to two years to get a response. Your only other choice is to hire an attorney but it doesn't sound like he can afford one and appellate attorneys can get very expensive.
