statute of limitations
what is the statute of limitations on misdemeanor offenses. The charges are petty theft and resisting recovery by a merchant.

Generally speaking, the statute of limitations on a first degree misdemeanor is two years. On a second degree misdemeanor, it is 1 year. Petty Theft could be a first or second degree misdemeanor based on the amount stolen and whether or not the individual has any prior theft related convictions.
