Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
statute 772.11
I was terminated from my job for giving someone my employee discount and paid restitution of the $5.00 at the time of my termination. Now some lawyer saws I owe $200.00 and if I dont pay in 30 days it will go up $200-$400 more. What do I tell the guy? Do I have to pay?

Re: statute 772.11
Dear Sir/Maam:
The statute they reference is for civil theft, in other words, not criminal. You do need to pay that $200.00 fine or call them and see if they will settle for $100.00. It can't hurt, all they can say is "No". You can read the statute yourself. Online, you can Google "Florida Statutes" and go to section 772.11. I have had many clients in cases of petty theft from dept. stores that later get a similar letter from the store's lawyers demanding the $200.00. Good luck. Tom Rosenblum
