Re: statutory rape
A 16 or 17 year old can consent to sex with another person who is 16 to 23. Sexual relations if you are older than 24 and he/she is under 18, or if he/she is under 16, is could be a 2nd Degree Felony to a Life felony, or possibly a capital felony depending on his/her age.(That is, 10 years to life, plus registration as a sex offender). The maturity of the minor, or any reason you had to believe he/she was older provides you with no defense, although it could be used to knock years off your potential prison sentence.
If you have had sex with someone who is not old enough to consent, and have not been reported to law enforcement, pray that you do not get reported.
If you've been charged with having sex with a minor, get an attorney NOW. If that means selling everything you own, do it. You may be facing a very realistic possibility of a very long time in prison...do not try to defend yourself...do not try to talk your way out of it. Get an attorney, and talk about it with anybody else.
Only an attorney can properly advise you, and he/she can only do that after a full investigation of your case.
