Many times, a felony conviction can keep someone from joining the military and/or getting the job of their choosing or going to a college and/or grad school of their choice.

You should meet with a local criminal defense attorney in your area to see if your step son's charges can be reduced (or even dismissed). If not, your step son may be eligible for the State's Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) program, which is a good program for first time offenders by which the charge can be dismissed (upon successful completion of the program).
