Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I stole someone's iphone and then returned it two days later. This was a month ago. The phone was stolen from a gambling institution and the gambling institution gave the person my cell phone number. I was threatened by both security at the gambling parlor as well as the person whose phone I stole and then returned. After I returned the phone is when the person called me and said they were going to press charges because all of his iphone applications were erased. I told him it was an accident (which it really was I wasnt trying to wipe out his apps I was trying to get his phone number because I freaked out after I took the phone and I wanted to get it back to him). Fast forward to a month later and he is now emailing me asking for 850 dollars in restitution for the apps that are missing (even though I have told him he can re-download them for free on itunes). He is stating either I pay him or he is going to press charges. I feel as though I am being blackmailed and I am very distraught that my cell phone number was given to him. If he was going to file a police report fine then let the police come deal with me, but now I am being harassed by this guy and emailed about money he wants even though I gave him phone back almost immediately. What can I do and what can he do to me?

All I can say is, you don't want the cops involved, especially over something like this. Try to work something out.
