Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
Subpoena
I am a New York City resident. There is a capital trial happening in Miam, Forida. The lawyer sent me a subpoena to appear as a character witness through the mail. It was not sent through registered mail nor was it served on me.
Am I obliged to appear? I have a disabled husband and two disabled children. I have no one to help take care of them. I explained the situation to this lawyer, but it fell on deaf ears.
Your advice?

Re: Subpoena
The court does not have jurisdiction and you do not have to appear.
I recommend contacting the attorney who issued the subpoena and ask for assistance. Request travel arrangements and help for your husband. You are likely to receive the help.
