In a criminal case, what does it mean to put up a surety bond?

An agreement providing for monetary compensation in the event of a failure to perform specified acts within a stated period. The surety company, for example, becomes responsible for fulfillment of a contract if the contractor defaults.

a surety bond is with a bondsman.you pay 10 percent to the bondsman and he puts up the rest. the rest issecured withyour collateral ie. deed to home.when the case is closed he keeps the10 percent and you get your collateral back. ifr you fail to appear he gets the house.
