Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I was suspected of grand theft and burglary

A friend of mine was moving out of his house and said I could have a some junk that I wanted to take to the scrap yard. I told him I would come by to get it in a few days, he agreed and I did. The next day an officer came to my house checked my trailer and told me it had been reported stolen the main object in question was a washing machine which was in the backyard with the rest of the scrap metal he had left me. I immediately called my friend and asked him why there was a police officer in front of me and he accused me of stealing his washer and that he wanted all his stuff back immediately. I arranged to meet him back at the house with all of it and apologized for the inconvenience. The officer took my information, said that it seemed like a misunderstanding and that I should take the stuff back so he could close out the case I took his advice and met them there with everything. Once I arrived the officer restated it seemed like a misunderstanding, thanked me for cooperating and said he would file his report to close out the case. At this point my ''friend'' disagreed and asked that it remain open. Does he have a case against me if I returned everything? Could the state pick up the charges if he drops it with no phys. evidence?

Re: I was suspected of grand theft and burglary

It could, but, if your account is accurate, and the officer was witness to everything, chances are they probably won't pursue anything. At least, not without the officer on board, and it appears from what you say that he didn't feel that there was anything beyond a simple misunderstanding.
