what is the time frame a business can prosecute a theft case from the point of them discovering the crime via video cameras surrvalence?

For a crime, the statute of limitations is set by the state. I am not sure of the exact time frame but it is generally a 4 - 5 year timeframe for the limitation on filing charges. The business can also file civil charges for theft with damages of three times the amount of the theft plus the original value. In addition, the damaged party can obtain court costs, interest, and a reasonable attorney's fee.
