Is there any legal recourse towards an adult if they verbally threaten your minor child with bodilly harm?

Yes, in addition to calling the police, you can file for a domestic violence injuction against the adult on behalf of your child. This is what most people call a restraining order. They're free to file, they're usually issued--at least temporarily-- within 24 hours, but they will require you and your child to attend a court hearing. You should call your county clerk to learn more.
