threats have been made by granddaughters former boyfriend to KILL her and me. this action on his part was brought about by granddaughter throwing him out and me backing her so she could stay in apartment financially.He threatened to kill her dog and me today. My question is this, can anything be done to protect my family .Police told granddaughter there is nothing they can do.

You and your granddaughter might be able to obtain a civil injunction against her ex boyfriend, but it really depends on all of the details. I'd suggest the two of you go to an attorney to explore the possibility of obtaining an injunction/restraining order against him.
