You should contact an attorney who can appear in court for you and they can also negotiate a favorable outcome for you. You don't say where, but feel free to contact me if you need help.

You will not be able to settle it out of court. If, and only if, you cannot afford an attorney. You should contact the Clerk of Court and find out who the judge is assigned to your case. You should then write the judge, explain your circumstances, and request the continuance. Do not plead the facts of your case, as the judge will not make a plea offer or be able to resolve the case - only the prosecutor can.

Personally, I suggest contacting a Criminal Defense Attorney to represent you. Generally speaking, you will save money in the long run.
