How much time would be served on a 3 years sentence?

Depends on a lot of things, most importantly the type of crime. Some crimes require that almost the entire sentence be served. An inmate can do things in jail to shorten the sentence on many crimes, like take classes, help the jail personnel, etc. On an average, most people do 85% of their sentences.
