Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I'm watching the Casey trial and after listening to the closing statements and the Antonies lying in court. As a layperson, it asked a question that I couldn't answer. if someone perjures themselves in open court, how are they prosecuted? Is it a felony, do they get arrested, are they jailed, fined?

As one of the few people who has not watched this trial, I think I can be more objective in my answer. First, perjury is a felony, and if it is in a capital case, such as the Anthony case, then the person faces up to 15 years in prison, a 2nd degree felony. You asked how are they prosecuted and the answer is that the state has to prove they were lying. That isn't necessarily easy. For example, if you think that several witnesses during the trial were lying, the prosecutor has to now say, "how do we prove it." Opinion that they are lying is irrelevant. Emotions play no part when it comes to deciding if a person is lying, only the facts.
