Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

A week away from finishing his house arrest sentence, my friend's son got into an altercation with his girlfriend and broke her mother's window and slapped her. Now he is in violation of his parole, and charged with home invasion and assualt (looking at 16 years). His parents can't afford a lawyer, wondering does he have any chance trying to defend himself? He basically found his girlfriend in her mother's house with another guy, not a valid reason I know, but he's only 19 and his 14 month old son was also in the house with them.

He needs to talk to his public defender about fighting the charges. While they are overworked, they are good attorneys and should take advantage of their services.
