Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

My wife was at a friends house and they got into a domestic dispute. The guy damaged my wife's car by punching the hood and breaking the turn signal on the car. He assaulted her and she called the cops but while waiting for the cops, he went inside the house and punch himself to make it look like she did it. The cops believe his story since he had marks and all she had was dirt all over her from where he pushed her on the ground and choked her. So the cops took my wife to jail on domestic battery. Should she press charges against him and should I press charges for the damages to the car?

She can attempt to tell the police what happened but the police may not believe her due to no injuries. Is there any evidence or an eye witness that will back up her story of being attacked?
