Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Florida
fired for being pregnant
I was employed with a company and became pregnant, The office manager called me into the office and asked if I would be returning to work after the baby was born if not the wanted me to train my replacement before i left. I stated that 6 weeks was not enough time and I would be resigning in the end of July. The following week they hired a girl for me to train. I asked in our office meeting why my replacement was hired so early if I was not leaving until the end of July, They stated that she was going to trian in a few departments. The following week I was fired. They called me into the office and said ''we dont need you anymore.'' I asked if they were firing me and they said yes. I recorded the whole conversation. I knew what they were doing to me. I was unable to collect unemployement because i didnot make enough money. Please let me know if I can take any legal actions.

Re: fired for being pregnant
An employer may not terminate an employee because they are pregnant. It is a form of gender discrimination. The EEOC web site at www.eeoc.gov should have additional information on this type of discrimination. I suggest you speak with an employment attorney. I would be happy to talk to you about these issues.
