Legal Question in Education Law in Florida
Stolen checks
Two years ago, my handbag was stolen out of my desk. I immediately went to the bank and stopped payment on that book of checks. Six months later, a check was written, return with the account closed. Am I held liable for checks written when I have gone to the institution and informed that my check book was stolen? The business that the check was written to are suing me?

Re: Stolen checks
You are not liable for a forged check, especially when you informed the bank of the theft. Do not ignore the suit, though. You will need to show up and prove that the signature is not yours. Bring proof that you notified the bank of the theft.
