can a durable power be canceled by the person who makes it and how is it done

Yes it can be cancelled by the person it who it is for. They just have to notify the person who has the durable power of attorney that they no longer have the power. The durable power may dictate that this may have to be in writing.

Yes - tell the party you are revoking it. File a Revocation of DPA with the court in the event this person has recorded the doc or continues to use it without your knowledge. Then you will be able to prosecute if the need arises.
