liablility for parents
My wife is worried about her mother. Her mother is retired and living off of a dwindling life savings. My wife is worried that if something were to happen to her mother and she needed expensive medical care, then died, that we would have to pay for her mothers medical bills. I just want to ease her fears that we are not responsible for her mothers bills.
Thank you,
Bryan S.

Re: liablility for parents
Generally speaking you are correct. Children are not responsible for their parents debts.
If your wife signed or co-signed or is personal guarantor on any bills then she could be responsible for the debts. However, you don't mention that this is the case.
