Mom lives alone and is now terminally ill. Need help of an elder law attorney. Do we need one in Florida or can I get one in NY?

You may need both. You will probably want face to face counseling here regarding mom's issues, and then someone in FL to do the work down there. If I had to pick one, I'd say go with the FL lawyer who's familiar with procedures in mom's county of residence.
Good luck.
