mother-in-law
wife is on checking accout.and just fouind out her mother is still collecting her deceased fathers retirerment money.. is my wife responsible for pay back???

Are you sure your mother-in-law is not entitled to the retirement? If she is collecting illegally she will have to pay it back, but your wife should not be personally liable unless she is aware of the fraud and participating in it.

Probably not, unless she is spending the money -- even then, she would probably need notice of something amiss.
