My parents are on medicare and have a small savings and a paid for home. I am wondering how to protect their assets in case they need to go to a nursing home? They live in Florida.

The answer is too involved for a quick summary. Some assets are protected, some are protected with certain limitations, and others are not protected. There are various options when attempting to 'protect assets', but more information is needed. For example, depending on the value of the assets, the non-nursing home spouse has full access to the funds and nothing will go to the nursing home.
