Since this specialty crosses state lines (as opposed to zoning, criminal and education laws, for example)virtually every practitioner I know has clients from different states. Matters like copyright and trademark are primarily federal in nature so can be practised anywhere. Contract, privacy and rights of publicity laws are state-based so any lawyer representing you should have a working knowledge of Florida law. Not necessarily. I would consider whether you anticipate any local litigation, whether you want to have face to face access to your attorney and the qualifications of the attorneys you are considering.

For instance, I represent entertainment clients who are both local and not. However, I usually do not have to appear in court for my clients so I am able to represent those not in the same town. Contract review and negotiations generally do not require a lot of face to face time with the client.
