Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Florida
Use of movie clips in class
Hi -
I am a teacher who has used one and two minute clips from various movies in my classroom in the past to help emphasis points in a lesson. I was recently told this was a copyright infringement and that I could be sued.
Can you advise either how I can go about getting permissions or how to protect myself? Or should I simply cease doing this?

Their is a doctrine called the "fair use doctrine" This allows use of copyrighted material under certain exceptions without payment. I would have the schools legal counsel give you the fair use doctrine outline of what is permissable.
