Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Florida
Producer/Songwriter agreements
I have recently produced/recorded and co-written a song for an artist signed to a major label. Seperate from mechanical royalties I am also entitled to producer royalties since I composed the music.
I want to keep the rights to the beat that I made and my lyrics to the song. What wording do I need in my producer agreement to retain the rights to the song? I would like to use the song on 'my' album as well.

Re: Producer/Songwriter agreements
A producer agreement isn't the best way to protect your beats or your lyrics. The best way is to copyright them. You can get more information on copyrights at the Library of Congress website.
Then, instead of putting anything about the beats and lyrics in your producer agreement, create a licensing agreement that licenses your copyright to your client for his or her song.
You can find forms on the Lawguru website.
