Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

About 5 months ago I found out that my husband was having an affair. I found out through the other women so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the only one. I moved out and am now in a tough financial spot and clueless to how a divorce works. We had been married 3 years and when we were first married he wasn't working. I paid our bills for the first few months. After he secured employment we paid for our own bills and nothing was joint. I had more bills than him and had taken a pay cut to move closer to him and his family. We have no kids or real assets. Am I eligible for alimony and if so, how do I go about getting this?

You certainly have the right to ask for alimony in a dissolution oif marriage petition. However, in a marriage of such short duration, it will be very difficult to get a court to order it.

You should consult with a family law attorney in your area to discuss your options.

I agree with Mr. Buckley. Usually you need a marriage of at least 7 years duration for an alimony award.

If you opt to proceed without the assistance of counsel, be aware that you will not be entitled to a do over if things go badly.

An internet inquiry is no substitution for an in-office consultation with an attorney.

Sorry to say my colleagues are correct. However, does not exclude you from asking for it. I suggest you show the amount that you feel would be justified by the loss of your income and what you contributed. The judge may consider that amount.
