Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
I am a 16 year old girl and I will be turning 17 in July. I am being verbally abused and put down everyday and it is getting to the point where I don't think I can take this anymore. I want to become emancipated because I am tired of being degraded. The only thing I worry about is whether or not I will be able to follow through with this. My stepmother has finished law school and is able to manipulate things and make me seem like the crazy. I am afraid she will fight it and I will be forced to stay. I just need to know if I meet all requirements and if there is anyway I can do this to beat her. I am from the state of Florida incase that is needed.

are you living in florida? Is this your current home state? If no, you need to file in the state you reside in. Secondly, I doubt that you meet the standards. .. You must be employed and able to take care of your self. I suggest you do the following. Contact the counselor at your school. Tell them the situation and ask that you be placed in foster care until you graduate from high school. Where is your father? Where is your bio mom? Do you have an aunt or uncle or grandparent that can take you in. That would be some other options. YOu are old enough to go to court and ask to reside with a relative if they will take you in. Most judges are more willing to hear a case if you have a place to go. They will have to file for custody and have you testify before the judge.
