Adoption of child

I had a daughter from a previous relationship, he hasn't seen or contacted her since she's been born but is on Birth Cert. also court order for Child supp. I would like my present husband to adopt her what steps do I need to go through and do I need a lawyer for this?

You would need to file a Step-Parent Adoption. If you know where he is then that would help decrease the costs. If not then constructive service would have to be processed and a diligent search. This would increase the costs. I would suggest retaining an attorney since you are dealing with severing someone's rights to their child. You may have some complications with this and service upon him. However, it should not be expensive.
