Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Adoption Paperwork - Electronic or Printed Paper

Good morning. I have a few questions about adoption paperwork that I was hoping you might be able to answer. My company provides electronic document management for businesses nationwide. We are working with a prospective adoption agency in Florida and I am trying to find out:

- How long agencies need to keep adoption paperwork?

- If that paperwork can be a scanned electronic file or if it has to be the paper original?

My questions would also be for Florida or the United States. Any information you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks,

Re: Adoption Paperwork - Electronic or Printed Paper

You'd have to speak to an adoption agency or the American Adoption Association who could advise you better. We lawyers wouldn't be familiar with their ethical standards. I can tell you that no Florida law prevents them from keeping electronic records.

We lawyers are required to keep files for three years, and (with certain rare exceptions unrelated to adoptions) we can store our files electonically.

I don't know anything about the laws outside of Florida.
