Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Adoption Reversal?

My step father adopted me when I was 10 and I'd like to reverse the adoption if possible. I've discovered a lot of information lately that makes me feel like I was misled into consenting to the adoption. My stepfather also sexually abused me as a child and I want nothing to do with him. I have a great relationship with my biological father now and I want him to be my dad legally. Is this possible? I live in Florida and this is where the adoption was done.

Re: Adoption Reversal?

There isn't really any such thing as a "reversal," but your biological father can adopt you. He may however, have to fight your adopted (now legal) father in court to do it. You should speak with a lawyer.

Re: Adoption Reversal?

I need more information to answer this question effectively. There is not an adoption reversal, but your biological father could re-adopt you. Are you an adult? If yes, the court would still require you to give notice to your step-father of the final hearing for adoption. If you are an adult who is married, you would need the consent of your spouse. If you are a minor, the termination of parental rights of your step-father becomes a bit more complicated. My office handles these matters. Feel free to call for a free consultation.

Best wishes.
