what advice would you give to a grandmother who wants to fight for custody over her grand child?

The only advice I can give is: talk to a lawyer. To obtain custody, you must prove that the child is suffering from abuse and/or neglect by the parents. This is a tough standard, and you should not try this type of lawsuit without a lawyer.
