Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

alimony

My father was recently jailed for arrearages of alimony. the order states that he was to have paid $6400 by 7/27, which he did not. he was picked up and place din jail. The order states that he is to remain there until it is paid. he does not ahve the money. Can they keep him there indefinitely? I called the Judge's office and asked if there is a review hearing set up and was told no but that my dad could do the paaperwork to motion the court. The JA said that once she receives the paperwork, the Judge will decide if she will hear the case. is this possible? it seems like there should be a time frame of sorts.

There is a time period. Dad can get out by simply paying the arrearages. Of course, you can help dad by loaning him the money. If this is not possible, hire an attorney to file a motion to set a purge amount (which many judges set in the original order). This is a sum less than the whole amount which, if paid, will allow dad to be released from jail.
