Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

alimony

12 1/2 years ago, I was ordered to pay my husband ''permanent & periodic alimony. It was explained to me that this must be done until he remarries or dies. The man will never remarry as long as he is getting his $500 a mo. from me. It was also explained to me that I happened to have the only judge in the 20th judicial circuit that tried to equalize incomes between the couples @ the time of divorce. Since I earned about twice the salay of my husband I was ordered to pay this amount. I appealed it once & lost. I'm now age 62 & qualify to earn social security. I also get retirement from my 32 yrs. of working for the state of FL. I now live in SC & would love to get rid of this burden & have a more comfortable retirement.

Re: alimony

If your income has lowered substantially (which often happens at retirement), you can ask the court to stop or lower your alimony.
