Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I am anticipating a long contested divorce and I have being living in a hotel for nearly 3 months can I purchase a small home to live in while this is being contested and not have it be marital property. No children are involved.

No. The funds used are marital assets. Rent.

In general, it is not a good idea to purchase an asset during an ongoing dissolution of marriage proceeding.

However, it may be possible if you communicate with the other party and enter into an agreement that states that it is understood by both parties that the newly-purchased home is not to be considered marital property for the purposes of equitable distribution.

I agree more so with Mr. Slater - the reasons are many but one in particular is that you will need for the ex to sign a quit claim deed over to you. Just another unnecessary expense if you are on a limited income. I would suggest you rent.
