Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Appealing Child Support amount

I just received info from the FL states attorney reguarding my support case that recently went to trial. I am a VA resident (my childs father is a FL resident) so the state of FL was supposed to be representing me. They just told me that I have been awarded $300 per month and no back child support for the last year that my childs father has provided absolutely nothing. How did this happen? I currently pay over $1200 per month in day care, in addition to her medical expenses which come in at $500 per month because she has special needs. Not to mention misc. costs for taking care of her. The atty had all of the documentation to support this prior to the hearing. Im bankrupting myself to support her and the people that were supposed to fight for me have let me down. What are my options? How can I appeal the decision?

Re: Appealing Child Support amount

This is a Florida matter and I am a Virginia attorney, but the amount of support seems low based on just the work related day care alone. There us unquestionably an appeals procedure in the Florida court which rendered the decision, but you would have to consult a Florida attorney about that.

I agree with Mr. Ward, it seems very low and you should retain Florida counsel to review the matter for you. You should also question the state attorney's office and ask whether they can further assist you. You have 30 days to file a notice of appeal so you need to act quickly.
