Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Back Child Support Owed - Father Not Paying

I have a 12-year old daughter and her father is $37,000 behind in support. He plays the system by getting a job and when CSE finds out, he quits. I have been back and forth in court for the past 12 years. What can I do to ensure that he is made to get a job and made to pay the $216 per month in support? (I haven't asked for it to be raised in 12 years.) I have been told that it is a federal felony to be that far behind in support. Wisconsin is doing nothing to make sure that he pays.

Re: Back Child Support Owed - Father Not Paying

Hire a lawyer in Wisconsin to collect the back support, if they allow that there. Don't depend on CSE. Not to knock anyone unfairly, but I've often said that CSE is free and worth every penny. By the way, it's not a federal crime to fail to pay child support, though a driver's license and passport should get suspended when back child support reaches $2500.

It may be a crime in Wisconsin, but you'd have to ask a Wisconsin lawyer that question. You should also ask the Wisconsin lawyer if a person can be jailed for failing to pay back support, as they can in Florida.
