if you married someone who thought he was divored and then found that the divorce for technical reasons was not valid what is my obligation now that i know to report it We have no idea what our first step should be

This happens more often than you would think, and it's rarely prosecuted. If you want to stay married, he needs to complete his divorce on the first marriage, then you'll need to be remarried after the divorce on the first marriage is final.

If you don't want to be married--good news!--you aren't. The marriage is not valid. You can simply just leave each other. The better practice, though, may be to file an annulment. You'll probably need a family lawyer to go that route.

You are under no obligation to report the bigamy, but, if you want to, you should contact the police.
