Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Break up

I am in a 6 year relationship which has just ended. We have lived together for the past 3 1/2 years. I moved in and put about $30,000.00 in upgrades to his home with the understanding that we would sell it and with the profits build our home together. We only had a verbal agreement, not a written one. Is it legally binding? We agreed he would maintain his regular bills and I would put my money in the house and pay for food, furniture, cable, and whatever incidentals came up. Do I have to move out and start over with nothing? Can I keep all the appliances and so forth I purchased? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerly,

Not-so-bright and Scarred

Re: Break up

Even though you did not have a written contract, you may still be able to sue to recover some of your money. This is a question for a contract attorney rather than family law as you would have to sue under contract law. Be prepared and have as much documentation as possible (e.g. personal checks, receipts).
