Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My brother's live-in girlfriend of 7 years died last week in a terrible car accident in Florida. Someone mentioned to me that he has to file for full custody of his daughter because they were not married. Is this true?

He also wants to appoint me as guardian to his daughter in the event of his death. How do we go about this without spending too much money? Her death has left us financially burdened.

No. He is a natural guardian. He should be looking into a wrongfull death claim on behalf of his daughter.
