Re: Name Change

I am not sure that a judge will require you to notify the father. You may wish to take reasonable steps to try and locate him. This includes:

1. Check online (411, white pages, etc.)

2. Ask his friends if they know.

3. Check with his family.

4. Check his employment (or former employer)

5. Look for him at his former hangouts.

If you cannot locate him, you may have to publish in the local legal newspaper if the court requires.

You should be able to locate a form for a petition in your local law library. If you have a problem, contact me and I will forward one to you.

Re: Name Change

The court will probably require notification to the father. Certain efforts to locate him will have to be made and then notice can be served through a local newspaper. You should obtain an attorney to help you. Good luck.
