how do i change my childs last name to mine ?

I have a 3 year old child who has his fathers last name i havent seen his father in almost 2 years and my son hasnt seen his birth father since he was 2-3 mounths old.he was court ordered to pay child support he did for maybe 6 mounths. I have a boyfriend of almost 3 years my son has called him daddy since he could talk.I dont know where his birth father is and i know that if i was to ask him to sign papers to change his last name he would laugh in my face because since i left he has done every thing in his power to hurt me my son,and my boyfriend. when my boyfriend and I get married I would like him to be able to adopt him. I have been trying to find a way to change his last name since the day i decided i was leaving. can you help ? thanx

If you are seriously considering adoption then you may satisfy the criteria that your ex may not have to approve the adoption since he has abandoned his child.
