Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Change child's last name

I need to change my 11 yr son's last name to my madien name. I have not seen or heard from his father in over 10yrs. I am married now but can not do an adoption right now but I at least don't want my son to have my madien name. How can I do this own my own not a lawyer, I can't offered it. He was born in Dallas so his records would be in Austin, texas. I've heard that I can place an ad in a newspaper and if the father does not reply it would a proof that I could use to be able to change my son's last name to my own.

Go to your local county court. They have forms with instructions to follow. Good luck.
