Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Child Custoday

I have a 13 yr old sister that I want to get custody of. I know that if I get consent from the parents it will go much smoother, the problem is there is no father listed on the birth certificate and I have no idea who he is or how to find him. If there is no father listed do I still have to try and find him?
