if i leave my child with their father and don't come back until a week is that considered abandoment

One week does not qualify as abandonment. I would make it clear to the father, though, that you are leaving the children with him for that week only and that you will go back to your regular arrangement after that.

Not if the parties agreed to this in advance. You should discuss this with the father before you do this and make sure he understands that this is only for the week while you do whatever it is that you plan to do and that this does not alter the normal living arrangements. This is a normal event in many divorced families during summer vacations where the child will spend blocks of time with the non-custodial parent.
