Re: Child Custody question includes HRS

Based on your information provided, it appears that someone is using the state Child Abuse Hotline to harass your mother. Under state law persons can make abuse charges and the agency must investigate until they determine whether there is any basis for the charge. We suggest she contact Florida Children and Families, a state agency, and talk to a person in the child abuse hotline section who will advise your mother of her rights and what she can do about such charges. She can also make certain such charges are properly erased after the legal period for keeping such records. Persons making such charges can remain anonymous, however, the agency can refuse to investigate the charges if they discover a history of false charges. Most states now have similar laws because of the child abuse problems, but it can cause problems for the innocent child caretaker such as your mother.
