Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Child Custody
I have a 7 week old daughter and wanted to know what rights her biological father has to her. We were never married and do not live together. He does not have a job and in my opinion would not be a suitable person to leave my daughter with or a role model. He has threatened to take her before and I want to know what his rights are, if any. If I wanted to give him no contact with her, would the state grant that? Thank you

Re: Child Custody
He has no rights until fathers' rights are given to him by a court. If he files a paternity suit, he will likely be given at least visitation, maybe custody. Not giving him contact is sometimes a bad idea, since it may strengthen his case for custody because you'll look like an uncooperative parent. You should speak to a custody lawyer before you deny him visitation.
