what is the legal age a child can stay home alone

There is no statutory age limit. However, the younger the child the closer you get to having the child picked up by DCF for abandonment, neglect or abuse. Also, no matter the age, if the child feels afraid to stay at home by him(her)self, I wouldn't do it? Even if you leave a teenager alone, there could problems, i.e., underage drinking, drugs, sex...the whole lot.

Common sense will always dictate what is best and safest.
