Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Is a child responsible for an absent parent's medical (or other) bills?

I am in Florida. Recently, my mother, absent from my life since around age 2, contacted me. We are worried that she may be contacting us to try to get money, or that we may end up somehow responsible for her debts. Can you please advise if this is possible under US or Florida state law? Thank you.

Under Florida law, children are never responsible for the debts of their parents unless they specifically obligated themselves to be. This would be done by signing a guarantee or co-signing on a loan or some other similar instrument to ensure payment of an obligation.
